Used to get from and to the airport
Had to wait for a while at the airport for a driver.
On the return journey the driver was waiting at the hotel on time (5:00am!)

Istanbul Card is a prepaid and rechargeable electronic card, which you can use for all transportation means in the city!

 

In Istanbul, you can use buses, metro buses, cable cars, ferries, funiculars, trams, seabus, sea taxis and metro.


İstanbul Kart

You can buy the card at major transit stops, such as Taksim metro station, Eminonu, Karakoy, Sultanahmet, Besiktas. The cards are anonymous so in case of need, you can give it to other people also. The initial cost of the card is 10TL and after buying it, you can load it with TL. Machines accept only paper money..

 

Akbil Dolum

There are 2 ways to load/reload the card. At newsstands and small shops (there should be a sign Akbil / Dolum), or at the self service machines (biletmatik), located at major transit stations.

At the self service machines, place the card at the white vertical rectangle as shown below:

The fare for each route is 2.30 TL and within the next hour, you pay less every time you hit the card. If you use the card for your friend or family, the discount does not apply for the second person too. You can check the remaining amount of the card, at the small screens above the electronic reader, when you hit the card.

If you lost your card, the only thing you can do is to buy another one. For this reason, don’t load the card with a lot of money. In case you stay in the city only for 1 or 2 days and you don't want to buy the card, you can buy a Token from the vending machines (jetonmatik). Each token costs 4 TL and you can use it only for one ride.
